CAA marks its fiftieth year with founder recalling their humble but impassioned beginnings. Along with my production partner, Kevin Wong, I was involved in all aspects of this project from conception to final delivery.
Meet the Artist: Demetri Broxton
client: Kala Art Institute
role: cinematographer, editor
Demetri Broxton is an Oakland-based multi-media artist exploring connections from Yoruban religious practices to current day hip hop. This video is one of three videos of artist profiles where I worked with the client to create short pieces that would serve both as starting points for classroom education and promotion for the accompanying gallery show.
Honoree: Thomas A. Saenz
client: Chinese for Affirmative Action
role: co-producer, cinematographer, editor
Thomas Saenz, president and general counsel of the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund, shares how lessons from his upbringing continue to motivate his career in legal advocacy.
Learning to Share
client: Colorful Mamas of the 99%
role: field producer, cinematographer, location sound, editor
I was contacted by the Colorful Mamas of the 99% to cover their planned action at Wells Fargo during Occupy Oakland. Aside from their activism, many Mamas were teachers, journalists and community organizers so were quite media savvy; they wanted a video to ensure the lessons of the day would be shared with more than just their children.
